Child Parent Play Therapy

Adults talk about their experiences and what’s on their minds, and children use play to explore their experiences and express what they think and how they feel. Play is important to children and the way they prefer to communicate. Toys are like words and play becomes their language. In child parent play therapy, we teach parents how to have special, structured, one on one play times with their child. Parents learn to respond empathetically to their child’s feelings, build their child’s self-esteem, help their child learn self-control and self-responsibility, and set therapeutic limits when needed.  These sessions are conducted at home and videoed so the therapist can watch with the parent in session.  The entire process can be done virtually and requires a minimum of 6 sessions.
